14 families have been left homeless in Kasamba area of Mansa ward in Bahati constituency after a wild fire swept through their houses leaving their property worth thousands of Kwacha burnt to ashes.

Mansa District Commissioner James Nyenjele says this came to light when Mansa Ward Councillor James Kalebaila reported the incident to his office on Monday morning about an inferno that happened over the weekend and left families to spend their nights in the cold.

District Commissioner discloses that the cause of the fire is still unknown but suspects it might have spread to the area due to the windy weather being experienced in the district.

Mr Nyenjele states that some of affected families are being accommodated by their neighbours while others are still spending their nights in the cold.

Mr Nyenjele says the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit Committee (DMMU) has already visited the scene to assess the extent of the damage.
