Algeria says it can take over 2017 Afcon

With the security situation still precarious in Libya, Algerian officials are pressing to take over the hosting of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Caf are yet to decide whether the tournament should be moved from Libya, where sectarian violence has weakened efforts to return the country to normalcy after the 2011 civil war.

Algerian minister of sports Mohamed Tahmi said on Tuesday that his country was ready to step in if Libya eventually lost the right to organise the showpiece.

“Algeria has the necessary infrastructure to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. And we also have the experience to organise such huge events,” Tahmi said.
