Government has announced that all timber exporting companies intending to export timber will be subjected to thorough inspection of their timber produce by the department of forestry.

Ministry of Green Economy And Environment Permanent Secretary  John Msimuko says this measure will enable the forestry department establish the source of the timber and ascertain that the timber was legally harvested.

Mr. Msimuko said that this will be a huge step in ensuring that the sector is free from illegalities.

He has reiterated governments commitment to ensuring that the the country derives maximum economic benefits from the timber sector.
