Local Government Minister Charles Banda has challenged councils in the country to embark on income generating projects in order to improve their revenue base.

Dr Banda said councils should not solely depend on funding from central government to pay salaries and facilitate provision of various services which they are mandated to but consider entering into innovative resource mobilization ventures to raise own revenue.

Dr Banda said this when he toured the construction sites of the hotel, shopping mall, a bus station and an ablution block that Kapiri Mposhi Town Council is constructing at a combined cost of over K 22,8 million to raise its revenue base.

The minister who was impressed with the Council’s initiatives said there were various ventures and opportunities that local authorities in the country could exploit to make themselves financially self-sustainingand end their overdependence on equalisation funds from government.

The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
