Minister of Health Jonas Chanda has announced that Zambia has surpassed the 50, 000 mark of covid19 cases as he announced 1, 408 new cases that have been detected in the last 24hrs.

Dr. Chanda says the cumulative now stands at 50, 319 with active cases at 6,844.

Speaking during the covid19 update in Lusaka today, Dr. Chanda said that 17 people also succumbed to covid19 in the last 24hrs.

And Dr. Chanda said that the ministry has however noted a decrease in the number of patients being admitted to COVID-19 isolation centers, further calling on Zambians to continue adhering to the covid19 health guidelines.

Meanwhile, Dr. Chanda has revealed that the ministry will assess schools individually before they re-open next week.

He said that the ministry will further recommend for continued closure of schools that will not meet the set covid19 health guidelines.
