The Drug Enforcement Commission DEC in Kasama District of  Northern Province has destroyed 130 kilograms of marijuana.

This follows the disposal of cases of people arrested for illegal possession of the drug in the province contrary to section 34 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act Chapter 96 of the Laws of Zambia.

This emanated from an exercise which was conducted at the Kasama Dump Site yesterday and was witnessed by stakeholders from the Environmental Health Department, the Judiciary, and officers from the law enforcement agencies.

And DEC Regional Commander David Sikufele has cautioned people in the province to desist from being in possession of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances like marijuana.

He said trafficking in psychotropic substances is a serious offence and attracts a maximum jail sentence of 25 years.
