Over 50 animals in Chinsali District of Muchinga Province have died after they were affected by floods that hit some parts of area.

Provincial Veterinary officer Wilson Katumbi says the affected households whose cattle and goats have died are flood victims from Itapa, Chilinda and Chilunda wards.

Dr Katumbi told ZANIS in an interview that the animals developed lumpy skin disease and fever that emanated from the floods.

He named the worst hit areas as Kaso, Mbesuma, Shimuinda Bwinambo and Chunga in Itapa, Chilinda and Chilunda wards.

He stated that about 1,200 households are affected as their animals are sick pausing a downward investment trend which will result in low no income and consequently will lead to more malnutrition cases.

Dr Katumbi has however advised people not to eat the dead animals to avoid virus transmission from animals to humans.
