Government says it attaches great importance to the provision of efficient and effective delivery of quality housing, infrastructure and other social services by local authorities and stakeholders in the country. Speaking during the handover ceremony of a house to the first winner of Airtel Wina Big promotion in Lusaka Wednsday, Local Government and Housing minister Emerine Kabanshi said it is through decent housing that other basic needs such as access to clean and safe drinking water and adequate sanitation can be promoted. Ms Kabanshi said healthy citizens are productive and have the potential to improve the welfare of society thereby contributing to social and economic development. Ms. Kabanshi also said government is currently constructing 180 housing units through local authorities in some selected newly built districts at a cost of K73 million. Ms Kabanshi also called for the private sector to take advantage of an enabling investment environment to provide quality and adequate housing in the country.
