Government has launched the first ever Government fleet Management policy aimed at monitoring the utilization of public vehicles to curb misuse.

Minister of works and supply Sylvia Chalikosa says the policy provides for the establishment of an electronic monitoring and tracking system of government fleet in a bid to ensure that efficient information on the utilization of government vehicles is obtained.

Speaking during the launch of the policy in Lusaka today, Mrs Chalikosa further explained that the policy will facilitate for adequate allocation and distribution of fit for purpose vehicles in order to reduce expenditure on the procurement, insurance utilization and maintenance of government vehicles.

Chalikosa has since revealed that the policy has outlined a mandatory insurance component for all government vehicles in an effort to curb replacement costs which she says is a drain on the national treasury.
