Energy Expert Johnstone Chikwanda has called on government to aggressively provide alternative sources of income to all charcoal burners across the country.

Mr. Chikwanda says indications that the cutting down of trees for charcoal has greatly increased is a source of concern for the nation that is already grappling with the negative effects of climate change such as low rainfall and extreme hot conditions.

Mr. Chikwanda has told Christian voice news that government can also form cooperatives for charcoal burners countrywide for them to pursue other economic ventures that are not harmful to the environmnet.

He has also called on traditional leaders to engage charcoal burners through awareness initiatives on the need to protect the environment.
