The Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry ZACCI President Chabuka Kawesha says the importing of electricity to cushion the load shedding hours from 8 to 6 will in the long term impact negatively on the economy that is already in distress.
Dr. Kawesha says the importing of energy is something the country should have avoided at all costs; adding that spending huge sums of money on energy deprives other key economic sectors the much needed resources.
Speaking in an interview with Christian Voice in Lusaka, Dr Kawesha said that with the full Liberalization of the energy sector, the country should instead be a major exporter of the commodity.
Dr. Kawesha has appealed to government to look at other sources of energy to avoid the trend of importing electricity.
