Energy Expert Johnston Chikwanda says it is possible for Zambia to have no loadshading beyond March 2021 as indicated by government, saying the projects that are yet to be commissioned are sufficient to produce the 800 megawatts deficit.

Mr. Chikwanda has however indicated that the presentation of the 2021 national budget tomorrow, will give a clear position on the amount allocated towards completion of the said projects, that will generate the deficit.

Speaking in an interview with Christian Voice News in Lusaka today, Mr. Chikwanda said Zambia is expecting normal to above rainfall in the coming rainy season, saying this will enable the existing hydro power stations to generate power to their full capacity.

Mr. Chikwanda however said government should not relent but continue investing in power generation to carter for the growing consumption demand.

Zambia currently has 800 megawatts power deficit and the commissioning of the Kafue lower hydropower station is expected to add 750 megawatts while other smaller power station being constructed will produce the difference.
