Police in Lusaka have charged Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader, Chishimba Kambwili for defaming the President, contrary to Chapter 61 of the penal code section 87 of the laws of Zambia.
Dr. Kambwili, who was in the company of his lawyers and senior party officials appeared at the Lusaka Central Police Station at 10:00 hours in the morning.
Police recorded a statement from Dr. Kambwili after one and half hours, of interrogation.
Dr. Kambwili was later bundled in a police van amid tight armed police officers and was taken straight to the Magistrate Court, were he was charged for the offence of insulting the Republican President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
And NDC National Chairperson Charles Kambwita confirmed to journalists that Dr. Kambwili has been arrested and charged for the offence of defamation.
Mr Kambwita however, condemned the police officers for their conduct towards the accused person.
