Sewe and Nkana battle for semifinal spot

Nkana visit Sewe Sport in a must-win CAF Confederation Cup Group B decider in Abidjan on Saturday.

Nkana and Sewe are separated by just one point heading into their final round of Group B matches on seven and six points respectively from five games played and both know a win will guaranteed them a place in September’s semifinals.

The Zambian club heads to Cote d’Ivoire in fine form after picking up two successive wins to leap from bottom to second in Group B over the last one month.

Nkana beat bottom placed Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia 4-3 in Kitwe on July 26 before shocking Group B leaders Al Ahly of Egypt 1-0 at the same venue in their penultimate match on August 9.

“They are a solid team, difficult to play. They have a winning mentality and we must take them very seriously,” Sewe coach Rigo Gervais said.

However, Sewe  is the only team to have left Kitwe unbeaten in Group B  where they held Nkana to a 1-1 draw on May 24.

Sewe will also be looking to capitalise on Nkana’s poor away record of two losses to pick up that all-important home win just two weeks after defeating Etoile 1-0 away in Sousse.
