An unknown livestock disease has broken out in Milenge district of Luapula Province and has claimed the lives of over 300 pigs so far.

ZANIS reports that Acting Milenge District Fisheries and Livestock Coordinator, Chongo Kafula said the disease is causing high mortality in pigs, adding that it is killing at least 20 pigs per day.

Speaking when addressing village head persons in the Council Chamber today, Mr Kafula said the matter has been reported to the provincial office.

He said the department of veterinary is in the process of collecting samples in order to carry out post-mortem tests.
