Government says it has no plans to sell the power utility company Zesco, saying restructuring does not mean selling, but simply improving operations and increasing efficiency of the company.

Chief Government Spokesperson Chushi Kasanda says Industrial Development Corporation IDC, which is the holding company of all State-Owned Enterprises, gave guidance on the Zesco matter early this week.

Ms. Kasanda told Christian Voice News in Lusaka today government is concerned with the misinformation and falsehoods being peddled by the opposition Patriotic Front on several issues regarding the economy in general and on strategic national assets.

On Indeni Oil Refinery, Ms. Kasanda said the company informed workers of the new business model to which they will be part of and that they will be paid their dues before transitioning, contrary to assertions that government is selling it.

And on Konkola Copper Mines and Mopani Copper Mines, Ms. Kasanda said government is holding discussions with various stakeholders to come up with an amicable solution for the benefit of all stakeholders in the mining industry.

She said government is fully aware of the anxieties that the issues surrounding these two mines have caused but called for patience as the issues are being tackled.
