Minister of Agriculture Micheal Katambo has declared Zambia food secure for the year 2019.
Mr. Katambo has reiterated that the country has enough maize stock and other crops to feed the 17million Zambians till the next cultivation hub.
Speaking during the crop forecasting survey for the 2019-2018 Agricultural season and the food security status for the 2019 -2020 marketing season in Lusaka today, Mr Katambo however disclosed that the country is focused to record a production decrease on essential crops like maize, Sorghum, rice, and cassava among others attributing the decrease to prolonged dry spells experienced in the previous farming season.
Meanwhile Mr. Katambo has assured the country that government will curtail all illegal exports of maize and meali meal.
Mr. Katambo has further emphasized that all meali meal and maize exports are to remain suspended.
