Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Richard Musukwa has announced that Zambia recorded an increase in Copper production in 2020 with 8 of the Large-Scale mining companies recording an increase in production.

Mr. Musukwa also disclosed that the sector performed better than anticipated as copper production increased to 888,061.46 tones in 2020 compared to 796,430.77 tones recorded in 2019 representing an increase of 9.7 %

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Musukwa said that the sector generally performed well with notable increased production in Coal, Nickel and Manganese.

Mr. Musukwa said that government is however concerned with the continued illegal exploitation of Gold and other minerals in the country, mainly being perpetuated by foreigners.

He said that government will scale up its interventions to ensure that the country’s minerals are well protected for Zambians to Benefit from the mineral resources.
